For those interrested, I’ve updated the instructions which allowed to open everything in a tab (bookmarks, url, search) for Firefox 3.1. The main difference is that there is now no more BrowserLoadUrl, and as such some xml hacking is required (for now, I’ve yet to find a better alternative).
You can read the instructions on the original post, at the end.
Any luck with finding a userchrome.js workaround for opening new tabs from URL bar?
Unfortunately, for now, I haven’t yet found a way. It seems that is it possible to query the urlbar obejct from javascript, but I had no luck in my tryings. I’ll keep this up to date if I find something new. Meanwhile, I’m afraid you will have to use Alt+Enter (or Alt+Clic).
Here you go… new code
